Prison Break Final

Last night I sat down for the much anticipated (at least by me...seriously i don't know anyone else who's watching it, even Gary bailed) Season Finale of "Prison Break". Here's my thoughts.

-Was very confused when I looked at the clock and saw it was 11 and this thing appeared nowhere near over. Then discovered this was going to 12:10. Damn.
-The breakout went differently to how I thought. Why didn't T-Bag rat the guys out and say "they are in that drain" though?
-T-Bag must be annoyed he's now the King of Sona, yet Luis (the kid in the McGrady jersey) escaped. I reckon he had plans for him...and they weren't nice.
-Michael is the best ever hostage-swap organiser i have seen in my 31 years of watching tv and movies. The test-swap and then the museum idea were genius.
-I'm going to build a secret door in my car in case i ever need to hide family or friends at a police road block. They seem really handy.
-LJ looks about 21 now. Shouldn't he be fighting his own battles?
-Sucre is a great friend, even willing to be buried alive. Why didn't he just say "look, I was supposed to pick him up in a boat and take him to Columbia, then it was every man for themselves" though?
-No Sara sighting, but trust me, she's alive. Did some internet research and the buzz certainly is she's alive. Here's the Season 4 trailer.

Ron Artest

So Ron Artest has been traded to the Rockets. Here's my favourite quotes he's made about the trade so far, in order.

"Boston kind of blitzed the whole league with that trio they have. To pretty much compete for a championship, you need a trio and some great role players. I guess if it's McGrady, Yao and Artest ... I'll let everybody else do the math."

"I'll be a kid in a store with a lot of candy. I'm going to dance with the stars."

"I'm still not the type of guy to do all the right things. That's not my culture. I was raised different, but that doesn't mean I'm not a good person. I might do different things. I might say I don't want to be a King [anymore] or that my teammates aren't playing hard, but that doesn't mean I'm a bad person. I might have had the [incident] in Detroit, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be traded."

Things

Here's some things I've observed over the last few days.

THE CROWS
Does Neil Craig know what he's doing? Players being dropped and brought back one game later. Suspending Johncock. We had a decent game Sat night, but the Swnas were awful. Absolutely nothing worked up forward for them. Porps played the best game for a one-armed man since Nigel Smart's brother was running around in the southern footy league.

THE SIMPSONS
Man are they running out of ideas. Last night's episode stunk. They need to just sticking to focusing on Moe's creepiness or having really good celebrity guests.

WIPEOUT
Flicked onto this during "The Simpsons" ads last night. It's been described as "It's A Knockout" on steroids, which seems about right. Tara was loving it and must admit I'm not adverse to clowns hurting themselves. Here's a clip of it

NBL
3 teams have been eliminated in a month. Sad. At least the 36'ers are still around and the competition should be much stronger ie guys like that young chunky bloke with pimples won't be lining up for us this year. Our roster is actually really solid with no weak links, unless Brett Maher gets injured, which I'm sure won't happen.

PRISON BREAK
Season final tonight. Pretty sure they'll break out. Shock will be that Sarah is still alive. I think the biggest giveaway that she is alive is when LJ said "she was killed right in front of me, I mean I had my eyes closed but I heard it." A little too much information. I'm not sure what they'll do next season, but the ideas must be getting thin. Maybe they'll be sent to prison in disguise to uncover a terrorist plot. Ideally they'd just do a show with Sucre, T-Bag, Linc and Michael, mainly focusing on T-Bag.

Top 5 Movie Music Moments

Inspired by Dylan's "Top 5 Movie Intro's", here's a piece I've been sitting on for a while. It's my "Top 5 Movie Music Moments".

Vanilla Sky- "Last Goodbye"
Weird movie, but a good watch. The coming in of this song at a pivotal moment in the movie is brilliant. Can't find the clip on youtube, but next time you watch check it out.

Naked Gun- Something Good
A comedy video of the blossoming video between Frank and Jane. Some champagne comedy.

There's Something About Mary- Is She Really Going Out With Him?
More comedy gold, this time showing the dates of Matt Dillon and Cameron Diaz. Amazingly, not on youtube.

Shallow Hal- Too Young
Jack Black burns up the dance floor with this underated hit in the background. Again, no youtube clip. Man I better do this project myself.

Rocky IV- Hearts On Fire
Watching this makes you want to do fitness.

Hancock

I recently won some movie tickets through work and with mum over, what better time was there to hit the pics. For once there were a few decent options to pick from, but fate (due to times) chose "Hancock".

The movie begins with Hancock (Smith, in his most challenging role since "Wild,Wild West") being woken on a sidewalk bench by a kid to go to the latest emergency- some punks shooting at everything in sight during a highway chase. We're quickly alerted to his amazing skills in a full-on scenario. He catches the baddies, obviously, and comes up with a creative way of stopping them. In the process he causes of $7million damage and this feat causes the city to put out a warrant for his arrest.

Between the event and the warrant being issued, Hancock comes across Ray (Bateman, in his best work since "Valerie"), a struggling PR guy who gets saved by Hancock in a near train accident. Ray befriends Hancock and goes to work trying to improve Hancock's image. When the warrant is issued, Ray convinces Hancock this scenario is a perfect chance to build a new Hancock. Hancock reluctantly agrees and starts to implement Ray's plans.

Will it work? See it to find out.

The movie started really well and the storyline was intriguing....and then about halfway through there was a twist which was really annoying and took the story somewhere I decided I didn't want it to go about 3 seconds into it. What could have been a really cleverly played out story just got wasted. It's almost like the original writer died at the halfway point of the script and some comic book nerd was put in charge and consequently derailed the movie.

Potentially brilliant, but just ok in the end.

Apology

In a recent article titled "Top 10: Fast Food Innovations" I listed the Lemon Chicken now available at Red Rooster. I hadn't tried it at that point but was extremely confident this radical idea was a "can't miss". Guess what? It is.

It's a bed of plain rice with 5, essentially, chicken nuggets with a dab of lemon sauce and some crappy noodles on top. Just awful. The chickens who gave their life to make that tripe would be crestfallen if they knew that's what they were becoming.

So please, give the lemon chicken a wide berth and stick with the "Rooster Roll".

Prison Break

So after about 8mths, the next episode of "Prison Break" was on last night. It's been so long, I'd pretty much forgotten about the storyline besides Michael trying to still break out. The other thing I forgot was that sometimes when you thing everything finally will be resolved there's a twist. Just about when I thought LJ was gonna be freed, that sneaky lady killed all the policeman and we're back to where we started.

Hopefully i regain memory this week of where the series was up to and am a bit more clued in next week.

Top 10: Songs that you might be slightly embarassed to admit you like

Everyone has a song they are a little embarrased to like. Here's my Top 10

Predictable (Delta Goodrem)
Not the coolest singer for a 30yr old guy to like, but this song is catchy, powerful and is about The Scud, so............

Don't Stop (S Club 7)
Pretty 80's, but it's catchy with a nice little chorus and bridge.

Into The Groove (Madonna)
Super catchy, quick moving- probably the old girl's best.

Footloose (kenny Loggins)

If this clip and song don't make you wanna hit the dance floor nothing will. Probably Loggins best, comfortably ahead of "Dangerzone". Because of his portrayal of Ren McCormack, Kevin Bacon spent the next 20 years playing weird freaky creeps just to make sure he never got type cast as a pretty dance-loving nancy boy.

Walking On Sunshine (Katrina & The Waves)
Ultimate happy song. Check out this awesome clip from "High Fidelity". **Caution: Adult Themes**

I Want To Know What Love Is (Foreigner)
Ultimate haunting night song of the 80's, Ok, maybe "Every Breath You Take" is marginally better.

Stay (Lisa Loeb)
In the 90's every single Christian i knew had this cd for some reason.

Maneater (Hall & Oates)
This is a song by two suspected gay guys warning guys about watching out for this sneaky lady??????????

Uptown Girl (Billy Joel)

Great song, great bridge. Christie Brinkley was so impressed she married him- the ultimate "pretty girl marrying an unattractive man" case ever recorded. Sadly, all youtube clips have embedding disabled, so if you wanna see the clip just go to youtube yourself. It will be worth it.

Bye, Bye, Bye (N' Sync)
I've been seen many a time cruising down a highway, window open, tapping to this classic. Justin Timberlake's best ever work. Another protected clip, so here's a version by two akward teenage girls.

Top10: Fast Food Innovations

Last night for part of my lunch/tea i tried the new KFC Roller. It inspired me to do a piece on the Top 10 fast food menu innovations of the last decade. It will be controversial, but it's what i truly believe. Feel free to send me your suggestions.

KFC Roller (KFC)
It's a sensible size, cheap and delicious. I recommend the BBQ one. A great option for those who want to watch their weight but can't be bothered cooking something.

McFlurry (McDonalds)
On my trip to the US in '99 I discovered the McFlurry (pictured) and was taken away by it's tantalizing taste. I said while there "if there's a God, this will soon be availbale in Australia". Within weeks of my return it was on the menu. Take that atheists!

Cheesy Crust (Various)
Some genius found a way of putting more cheese into a pizza and cleverly put it in the worst part of pizza. Not even Einstein came up with that.

Lemon Chicken (Red Rooster)
Still yet to try it but it looks tempting.

McCafe (McDonalds)
Their best move of the last 20 years outside of the value meal. I recommed the jaffa torte and caramel fraoppe for a delicious mid-morning/breakfast treat.

Boneless Chicken (KFC)
They just somehow (probably with genetics) took out the bones. Best chicken you can eat.

Stunner Meals (Hungry Jacks)
I'm rarely that hungry, but when I am that gets me full, bloated and often needing a restroom.

Family Meals (McDonald's/Hungry Jacks)
Back in the days when i surfed (we'll get to that in another blog), this was a great meal to share with 1 other mate. 4 cheeseburgers, 4 fries and 4 drinks.
Mashies (KFC)
Wifey loves them more than me, but they are one of the best new sides in recent memory.

Upsizing (Various)
Sadly we don't sell the upsize sizes they have in the U.S, but the upsize if perfect when you're just a little bit hungrier.

It would be so nice.................

Headed over to the homeland friday to catch a few family and friends.

The drive went as well as could be expected for one containing two boys under 3 in the back. Luckily they were both asleep just after 6, meaning wifey and i got in a good hour of chatting without interruptions.

Got in just after 8:30 and sat straight down while Tara brought in the luggage to watch the Crows. After watching 3 quarters I concluded that Geelong are freaks and the Crows have some issues, then went to bed.

SATURDAY
Not so good sleep the night before due to Isaac being a bit spooked by his first try in Adelaide in a big boy bed, so he joined us, then later I joined him in his single bed. Got up to a lovely breakfast, then headed to the shops to grab some things, mostly cake-related. If you like cakes, check out the berlina range at the little bakery next to "Casanova's" on Henley Beach Rd. Amazing.

Went for lunch to "Hog's Breath" at the Bay with Darren, Michella, Ribar and Jessie. Took me a while to hit my stride due to tiredness but we had a lovely little catch up. Besides the great food and friends the music was fantastic. Mostly full of grunge and pop hits from the 90's. As we joked, it's like they took one of mine or Darren's mix tapes from the 90's. (for another perspective on this memorable lunch, read this http://www.darrenhunter.blogspot.com/ ).

After lunch came home and quickly headed over to Henley oval to watch the Henley amateurs play. Pretty scrappy/crappy game, the highlight being listening to the 3rd quarter address which contained the phrase "c'mon guys/lads/fellas" several hundred times. Saw "The Birdman" there too in a very 90's tracksuit. At night had dad and Mary over for dinner. Tara cooked a lovely carbonara which went down a storm. Chatted, then watched the end of the Swans v Pies.

SUNDAY
Hung around the house and had another delightful breakfast. Read the papers and chatted. Went out for lunch with the Osborne's to "Macca's". Good catch up. Came home and caught up with Tompy and Callan, then had a roast dinner with Breea as our special guest. Good night, highlighted by Isaac being able to entertain himself with a heap of toys Valda pulled out of the shed from the 80's.

Tv time at night, highlighted by "60 Minutes", "Rove" and "Dexter". Was really looking forward to Dexter and will likely tune in again. It got a bit disturbing at times but never went where I feared it would, so that was nice, although there were a few bloody scenes, but then he's a blood splatter expert, so...........Good stories, well written and some interesting characters.

MONDAY
Worked locally for the day then at night started heading home. Before I took off I looked up some motels online and wasn't overly confident I'd find something in Kaniva or Nhill that wouldn't have a Norman Bates-type as the owner. Settled on a place in Kaniva that looked semi-nice and the sign outside drew me in with listed features such as..........

"Colour Tv"
"Air conditioning"
"Tea and coffee"
"Soap" (this one was made up)

Seriously, aren't those things a given? I guess when you don't have a pool, foxtel, dvd players/in house movies and irons these are your main features. The check-in was scary at first when I noticed on the desk a "disconnection warning" from Origin, but I discovered this was for another of the owner's ventures. The owner looked good for someone who was over 100, but his age caught up with him when doing tricky things like using the eftpos machine. Within 10 minutes it was all sorted though and I could go to my room. The room was nothing special and after I found some form of heating, soap and extra lighting I was happy. Watched some tv then hit the hay.

TUESDAY
Did some work and headed home. Nothing interesting at all happened. Goodnight.

Stuff going on in my head

LITTLE LLEYTON
As an Aussie, I really wanted to stay up and watch Little Lleyton last night, then I remembered...

1/ He was probably going to lose
2/ It's great I can stay up to 10:30 to watch the match begin, but how could I last several hours watching the whole match?

I used to love watching Wimbeldon. When Rafter made the final several years ago I went to the Malcolm's to watch it. The game was delayed by rain..... for several hours. I quit and went home and turned on several times during the middle of the night. When i got up for work I turned on just in time to see him lose.

I love watching sports at night, but when games/matches go up to and including 1am I just can't do it anymore.

ISAAC
Isaac's current 5 catch phrases

"Bit later?"
"Special treat?"
"No get up"
"No hurting 'lijah"
"Naughty step"

SPORTS
Man sports are great lately. NBA draft, footy, Wimbeldon, cricket.........
The Melbourne v Lions game Sunday was amazing. Loved it. As much as Melbourne stink, they are in my "Teams I could watch when not playing one of the Adelaide teams" list. Generally I will only watch a game not featuring an SA team if

1/ They are playing another team on the "Team I could watch when not playing one of the Adelaide teams" list.
2/ Two of the Top 4 sides

Current teams on the above list are
-Hawthorn
-Melbourne
-Brisbane
-Carlton

EASTLINK
Been on the new "Eastlink" a few times now. It's not bad, pretty weird driving on a major road right around the corner you've never seen before. A bit annoying that on a 15min on some spots you only save a few mins, but overall it seems good. The Phillip Island drive should be the major winner.

SUPERCOACH
So you can't edit teams over a split round. Genius. Hopefully none of the 4 teams playing make changes this week.
